Google Rocks Egypt

While Obama and company finagle behind the scenes, a search engine executive takes charge. Wael Ghonim , a 30-year-old head of Google marketing operations in the Middle East, imprisoned for using Facebook to ignite revolution, sparked one of the biggest Cairo protests so far on Tuesday with his charismatic emergence from jail. Is this some sort of new world where search engines and social networks can topple dictators, sidelining the President of the United States? Sure looks like it. Obama is running out of time to provide a symbolic boost to freedom’s cause. Instead he plays backroom poker with a bunch of autocratic thugs clinging to Egypt’s old world. In Facebook lingo, it’s time to “poke” our President.
